What is Teeth whitening
Professional teeth whitening is a cosmetic treatment that uses a concentrated whitening solution to lift stains and discolouration from the surface of your teeth. It delivers results that are significantly more effective than over-the-counter strips or toothpastes, giving you a brighter, more even smile in a fraction of the time.
The treatment targets common causes of discolouration including coffee, tea, wine, and general aging of the enamel. Results typically last anywhere from six months to two years depending on your lifestyle and oral hygiene habits.
What to expect
The appointment takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes from start to finish. Your gums and lips are protected before the whitening solution is applied to your teeth. A specialised light may be used to activate the formula and enhance the results.
Most clients see a noticeable difference of several shades after a single session. Some mild sensitivity during or after the treatment is common and usually resolves within 24 to 48 hours.
How to prepare for Teeth whitening
Brush and floss thoroughly before your appointment to ensure the whitening solution can work evenly across the tooth surface. If you have a dental clean scheduled, try to have it done in the week prior for the best possible results.
Avoid heavily pigmented food and drinks such as coffee, red wine, and tomato-based sauces in the 24 hours leading up to your appointment. If you experience tooth sensitivity regularly, using a sensitivity toothpaste for one to two weeks beforehand can help minimise discomfort during the treatment.
Post-care for Teeth whitening
The first 48 hours after your treatment are the most important for maintaining your results. During this time, your teeth are more porous and susceptible to restaining, so it is best to follow a white diet. Stick to foods and drinks that are light in colour such as water, milk, chicken, rice, and plain pasta.
Avoid coffee, tea, red wine, soft drinks, berries, tomato sauce, and any other heavily pigmented food or drink for at least 48 hours. Smoking should also be avoided during this period.
Some sensitivity is normal in the days following your appointment. Using a soft-bristled toothbrush and a sensitivity toothpaste for the first week will keep you comfortable while your teeth settle. Avoid whitening toothpastes during this time as they can be too abrasive on freshly treated enamel.
To extend your results, maintain good oral hygiene, attend regular dental cleans, and limit your intake of staining food and drinks where possible. Touch-up treatments can be scheduled to keep your smile looking its best.
